Introduction

A photo from the NY times of Michael Jordan.

In February 2015 an article reporting that the famous Michael Jordan had passed away due to a heart attack at the age of 52 by a web site named Cronica Mx. Michael Jordan is an former professional basketball player who played for the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards. He is consider to be one of the best basketball players of all time. The website stated he “was found dead while in his sleep in his residence in North Caroline.” The provides a time his wife found him and produced a video to persuade some credibility to the claim the website was trying to make. With a good google search and some research it show that this is fake news and just some website trying to get social media going mad.

One good tell is that this “breaking news” segment was not posted on any other big news platform. If one of the greatest basketball player was to be produce dead it would be plasted on every big news station especially one it is a very famous player like Michael Jordan. There is also evidence that a clip they added in their fake breaking news video that portrays report Rich Eisen is giving an emotional speech about Micheal Jordan death but if you do research and go back to the origin of the video you will find that this is false. You will see that this video is form when Rich Eisen aired a emotional speech for the death of ESPN anchor Stuart Scott.

One of the biggest tells that this is not true is if you search his name in google today in 2020 you will see he is still alive. There is no death date when you search his name. News reporter are still conducting interviews with him and show that he still enjoy life. Micheal Jordan is not doing basketball anymore because he is retired now but still attends basketball events. Michael Jordan is seen giving a thought and emotional speech for the death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Bryant in 2020 which would not make sense and could not occur if he died back in 2015.

Conclusion

Social media is a great way to get information but not always. Before you believe what you see online do some fact checking and make sure you get the real facts before spreading fake news. I suggest you do extra research if it is about someone death. You have to remember that is someone son and daughter or son you are spreading news about or it could be someone role model, someone they care deeply for and you are saying that person is dead. News like that is heart-wrenching and could seriously damage someone. Death is not something to exploit or get followers for, death is a serious thing that happens to many people everyday and we should respect peoples lives and privacy. Now and days the news media is so quick to get the news out there that they do not care or “have the time” to fact check and respect other peoples privacy. Take Kobe Bryant death for example, his wife found out her husband and daughter were dead from the new on the tv before the authority had the chance to reach out to her and tell her the news. You must be careful with fake news and respect other lives. Do your research if you care for the cause and are going to share it with others.
